Hey October Closers,
It’s been almost two years since our last email (seems like more)... but we are back!!
Our Current Reality
We obviously took it on the chin in 2024. Since then it’s been two years of licking our wounds, screaming at the news, and witnessing Trump and his administration enrich themselves to absurd (almost comical) extremes. We've seen our communities terrorized by ICE and dozens of common sense health, environmental, and business regulations ripped to shreds—with Supreme Court blessings. Our standing in the world has reached the unfathomable point where we are admired by the dictators of Russia and North Korea and Venezuela and loathed by the fairly-elected leaders of Europe, Mexico, Canada and virtually every other democracy of the world. It's hard not to get worked up!
So we are firing up the engines and getting back to work. We will focus our energies on three fronts over the next 70 days:
1. GOTV in battleground states.
To start with, we need to support the non-partisan Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) organizations in many battleground states that will determine the House makeup. There should be a massive blue shift if we can activate the base and capitalize on the energy sweeping moderates, progressives, independents and even conservatives. We are working with our partners at Movement Voter Project and will present their recommendations at our kickoff event. These donations will be tax deductible.
2. Flipping the Senate.
The Senate midterms present a tough map that looked out of reach until a few months ago. Now, it looks very possible. Like, really possible. We will be targeting two critical “holds” (MI, GA). We need to win both. Plus there are five key races where California money can make the most impact (NC, OH, ME, AL, TX). We need to win four to reach 51–49, so it’s still a long putt but getting shorter with every Truth Social tweet.
3. Making MAGA play defense everywhere.
There are races all over the country that used to look safely red and now are very competitive. By supporting a few of these once long-shot races we keep the other side on defense. It’s possible we win one, but even if we don’t, they have to deploy valuable resources all the way to November. We like the candidates and their chances in these long shot races: KS, IA, NE, SC, FL.
We will lay out more details at our kickoff event on Wednesday, September 9th, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm in Palo Alto. Senator Ossoff will be joining in person to give us his take on the current state of affairs and cheer on our efforts for the broader Senate push.
