It’s 2024… and the same storm clouds are still on the horizon
Reproductive rights have been decimated in many states with threats of national legislation now looming if Republicans take control of the House, Senate and White House.
A warming climate seems to bring new consequences every week with still no legislative consensus that it’s even a problem, let alone concerted efforts to move more quickly towards a zero fossil fuel economy.
The fight for social equality continues. Immigration reform, LGBTQ+ rights, affirmative action, corporate DEI efforts… these are all common decency issues that have been weaponized by the Right to stoke fear at the expense of millions of people’s life, liberty, and happiness. Taxes on billionaires and corporations remain unfairly low, while the poor bear the brunt of ever-rising costs and wage stagnation.
A re-orientation of our courts to the hard right has played out as feared and continues. With Roe already struck down, they are targeting other reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, environmental regulations, and the right to vote.
The road to solving all of these challenges goes through the Senate
The Silicon Valley October Closers is a group of progressive executives/investors/activists from the Bay Area dedicated to doing whatever it takes in the last months of national elections to secure Democratic majorities in congress, specifically the Senate. In California, there is one senator for every 20 million people. In Wyoming there is one senator for every 290,000 people. Yet they both vote equally on the laws and judges who determine our rights and freedoms.
Once again in 2024, our group of Bay Area families is asking the question of what Californians can do to ensure a blue majority in the Senate. The answer is: a lot!
Our 2024 objectives: Defend the Senate majority, flip the House, and elect Kamala!
Based on input from the same advisors that guided us so well in 2022 and 2024, we have developed a 5-3-2 investment strategy in the 2022 midterms:
Five At-Risk Incumbents. Buttress the defenses for Jon Tester (Montana), Bob Casey (Pennsylvania), Tammy Baldwin (Wisconsin), Jacky Rosen (Nevada), and Sherod Brown (Ohio).
Four GOTV Battlegrounds. Send c3 and c4 dollars to help local organizations get out the vote in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. These states are all fighting egregius voter suppression efforts by their state governments, and along with Wisconsin and Michigan will determine the Presidential election.
Three Rookies. We must help Elissa Slotkin to replace Debbie Stabanow in Michigan; Ruben Gallego to replace Krysten Sinema (hurray)in Arizona; and Angela Alsobrooks to replace Ben Cardin in Maryland.
Two Challengers. We believe two challengers have a (longish) shot at upsets this cycle: Colin Allred (vs. Ted Cruz in Texas) and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (vs. Rick Scott in Florida).
Sources: This strategy is informed by interviews with a handful of Democratic senators and their teams in battleground states, along with input from organizations such as Movement Voter Project. You can read MVP’s detailed 2024 Plan to Win here: https://movement.vote/2024campaign/.
